The 2025 edition is expected to welcome over 10,000 humanitarian leaders, ambassadors, ministers, C-level industry executives, NGOs, academics, media, and civil society, along with more than 50,000 online participants.
Dr. Lucey’s , “The edge of performance: AI, health, and the future of sport” will take place on Wednesday, July 9 at 16:05 CEST on the Frontier Stage. Throughout his , Dr. Lucey will highlight how artificial intelligence is being used across the men’s and women’s professional sports ecosystem to boost team performance and unlock new commercial opportunities, all while elevating the fan experience and inspiring a deeper ion for their favorite sports.
In addition to Dr. Lucey, other confirmed speakers include AI pioneers like Yoshua Bengio and Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton, as well as global visionaries and thought leaders such as Cherie Blair, Sasha Luccioni, Gary Marcus, Daron Acemoglu, and Ken Goldberg.
The four-day summit will feature talks and demonstrations of state-of-the-art AI solutions that could achieve global scale and meaningful impact on global challenges, such as food security, climate action, road safety, and healthcare.

Drawing from real-world deployments across men’s and women’s competitions worldwide, Dr. Lucey will present case studies including:
- How teams from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) used AI-enhanced performance insights to challenge traditionally stronger opponents at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup;
- How broadcasters leveraged AI-enhanced;
- storytelling tools during Euro 2024 to deepen audience connection and improve access to expert analysis;
- How an AI-powered live match center drew six months’ worth of engagement in a single week through contextual, data-driven fan experiences.
In addition, he will explore the broader implications of agentic AI technologies in sports, including their potential to democratize access to elite-level insights and elevate untold stories that inspire participation across communities.

Dr. Lucey’s talk will also touch upon applications of sports data to help unlock AI career opportunities. Since 2023, in partnership with Student Freedom Initiative, he has taught an “Introduction to AI Through Sport” course at Morehouse College, designed to share insight into the application of artificial intelligence tools and techniques used to analyze and predict performance across various sports. The semester-long course leverages sports to explore how data and AI can “measure the immeasurable,” and uncover new insights through advanced technology.
